“A very important space for poetry and the community“
Forward Prize 2023 winning poet and TWA mentor and headliner, Bohdan Piaceski
Who We Are…
The Word Association are a community interest company, led by a team of artists and activists who are passionate about supporting the underrepresented, the unheard and the marginalised. Through our programme of courses, events and opportunities we encourage people to find the power in their own stories.
What We Do…
We run funded writing courses, workshops and events that focus on giving voice to unheard communities and amplifying the stories within the silence.
We publish anthologies of poetry and written word that we distribute at community events, at Prides, through libraries and community centres and more.

“The skills I have learnt on our course with you have been life changing.“
Your Voice Matters, Participant
We run courses and events all year round including…
Words To Live By our writing for wellbeing 12 week courses, Survivors Say our fortnightly writing group for survivors of sexual violence, mindfulness/poetry walks, Standing Proud our Worcestershire LGBTQ+ writing group (in partnership with our friends at Out2gether), Your Voice Matters through the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Wellbeing and Recovery College and our monthly spoken word night, Speak Your Mind, at The Old Needleworks, Redditch. PRISM (our Gloucestershire LGBTQ+ writing group still meets online on a weekly basis).
Our History in the Making project is on until March next year, so there is still time to get involved with that!
Where Our Work Happens…
Mostly in Worcestershire, with some sessions online. We have run sessions in Redditch, Malvern, Hereford and Gloucestershire. We often run courses at The Hive, Worcester. We have run courses for Worcestershire Headway, Behind the Smile and Worcestershire Association of Carers.
